Download PDF The Whiz Kids And The 1950 Pennant eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. Every generation or so, a team comes along whose march toward victory is so improbable that you can't help but root them along. The 1950 Philadelphia Phillies was that kind of team; young and spirited, the Whiz Kids played a raw, emotional brand of baseball, nipping the Brooklyn Dodgers on the final day of the season to bring the National League's perennial doormat its first title in 35 years. Hall-of-Fame member Robin Roberts, the team's ace starter, peppers his recollections with snippets of oral history from his teammates to produce a book as lively as the team itself.--

Readers will laugh along with all the misadventures—and sneak a peek behind the Hollywood curtain—in this sweet and funny novel. When Mitchell Mathis moves to Hollywood with his academic parents, he soon realizes he’s the only ordinary kid in a school of the powerful and famous. There’s Skywalker Wong, whose parents are special effects gurus. And Julia Jodie Schwartz, named after her agent father’s two highest-earning clients. And Dash Silverman, whose parents write the movies that everyone else seems to have memorized. In an attempt to feel like less of an outsider, Mitch goes to an open casting call, where he ends up being cast in a soda commercial that launches a popular catchphrase. Suddenly he’s on TV, signing autographs, and riding in limos. But when the ad starts getting negative attention and he doesn’t have time for his old friends and interests, fame doesn’t seem like so much fun anymore. He’ll need all his “acting” skills—and the help of his Hollywood-savvy classmates—to figure out how to go back to being a normal kid again. Book Description
Download PDF The Whiz Kids Take The Pennant The 1950 Philadelphia Phillies eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. The 1950 Philadelphia Phillies--the "Whiz Kids"--threatened to run away with the pennant, but slumped badly in late summer before finally beating the Brooklyn Dodgers in a thrilling 10 inning game on the last day of the season. That day at Ebbets Field they won only the second pennant in Phillies history and their first in 35 years. Between the two pennants, the Phillies were mostly dreadful, finishing in the first division only once between 1917 and 1949, and dead last 16 times between 1919 and 1945, including five straight years from 1938 to 1942, once finishing 281/2 games out of seventh place. This book tells the stories of those Whiz Kids, a team with one of the most memorable nicknames in baseball history. Not only does this volume recap how their run to the flag was marked by clutch hitting and pitching in close games, it contains biographies of every player who appeared, including Richie Ashburn, Robin Roberts, Willie "Puddin' Head" Jones, and Eddie Waitkus. Game stories and many other features about this unique team round out the volume. In addition to a foreword by Whiz Kid Curt Simmons, it even contains a "View From the Other Side" by Yankees third baseman and former American League President Dr. Bobby Brown. This book is also the product of the dedicated, uncompensated work of 36 members of the Society for American Baseball Research, all of whom share a love of baseball and its rich history. Even for the most knowledgeable baseball fan, what follows is a treasure trove of fascinating anecdotes and facts about a bygone era of baseball when the uniforms were flannel, the players still left their gloves on the field between innings, and the games were played in two hours. With contributions by: Andy Sturgill, Bob Hurte, Bob LeMoine, Bobby Brown, C. Paul Rogers III, Charles Faber, Clayton Trutor, Cort Vitty, Curt Simmons, Dan Fields, David Skelton, Dennis Brislen, Ed Veit, Eric Hanauer, Greg Erion, Gregg Omoth, Gregory H. Wolf, Jack V. Morris, James Ray, Jan Finkel, Jim Sweetman, Jimmy Keenan, Joe Schuster, John Wickline, Lyle Spatz, Mark S. Sternman, Mike Huber, Neal Poloncarz, Ralph Berger, Seamus Kearney, Steve Schmitt, Steve West, Ted Smith, Warren Corbett.

Download PDF The Whiz Mob And The Grenadine Kid eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. From the creators of the New York Times bestselling Wildwood Chronicles comes an original, humorous, and fast-paced middle grade novel about a band of child pickpockets—imagine The Invention of Hugo Cabret meets Oliver Twist. It is an ordinary Tuesday morning in April when bored, lonely Charlie Fisher witnesses something incredible. Right before his eyes, in a busy square in Marseille, a group of pickpockets pulls off an amazing robbery. As the young bandits appear to melt into the crowd, Charlie realizes with a start that he himself was one of their marks. Yet Charlie is less alarmed than intrigued. This is the most thrilling thing that’s happened to him since he came to France with his father, an American diplomat. So instead of reporting the thieves, Charlie defends one of their cannons, Amir, to the police, under one condition: he teach Charlie the tricks of the trade. What starts off as a lesson on pinches, kicks, and chumps soon turns into an invitation for Charlie to join the secret world of the whiz mob, an international band of child thieves who trained at the mysterious School of Seven Bells. The whiz mob are independent and incredibly skilled and make their own way in the world—they are everything Charlie yearns to be. But what at first seemed like a (relatively) harmless new pastime draws him into a dangerous adventure with global stakes greater than he could have ever imagined.

Download PDF Confessions Of A Wall Street Whiz Kid eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. Confessions of a Wall Street Whiz Kid is a thought-provoking, real-life story of the ups and downs and ups again of one of Wall Street's "half-famous" financial geniuses, Peter Grandich. In 1987, at the tender age of 31, this high school drop-out was dubbed "The Wall Street Whiz Kid" by Good Morning America after accurately predicting the Black Monday stock market crash. He has since made so many stunningly-accurate market calls and financial predictions that he may well go down as the Madam Marie of the economic world. As a result, his daily financial blog has become one of the most popular on the web. In this light, witty and painfully honest autobiography, Grandich shares his thoughts about the accumulation of wealth and the hidden flaws of traditional financial planning. He exposes some of the dirty business of Wall Street and takes readers on a journey through his battles against panic attacks, suicide attempts and depression, and he shares how his faith not only helped him regain the will to live, but acts as the foundation for his financial beliefs. A contrarian by nature, Grandich also explains what he sees as the next great threat to the US - not terrorism or bio-warfare, but an economic time bomb of unprecedented proportion. Confessions of a Wall Street Whiz Kid is just that: a complete divulgence of matters of life, health, wealth-and, of course, the ins and outs of Wall Street.

From when the Phillies franchise was established in 1883 and a rookie manager led the team to its first National League pennant in 1915 to the World Series titles in 1980 and 2008, Larry Shenk, a longtime Phillies executive, provides insight into a potpourri of faces, places, events, and personalities in Phillies history. He takes readers through every no-hitter thrown by a Phillies pitcher and an incredible season by a relief pitcher who became the Most Valuable Player. Download PDF Confessions Of A Former Wall Street Whiz Kid Third Edition eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. UPDATED THIRD EDITION!

Book Description
Download PDF God S New Whiz Kids eBook. You can read online on your kindle, Android, iPhone, iPad. Victory Girls, Khaki-Wackies, and Patriotutes offers a counter-narrative to the story of Rosie the Riveter, the icon of female patriotism during World War II. With her fist defiantly raised and her shirtsleeves rolled up, Rosie was an asexual warrior on the homefront. But thousands of women supported the war effort not by working in heavy war industries, but by providing morale-boosting services to soldiers, ranging from dances at officers' clubs to more blatant forms of sexual services, such as prostitution. While the de-sexualized Rosie was celebrated, women who used their sexuality—either intentionally or inadvertently—to serve their country encountered a contradictory morals campaign launched by government and social agencies, which shunned female sexuality while valorizing masculine sexuality. This double-standard was accurately summed up by a government official who dubbed these women“patriotutes”: part patriot, part prostitute. Marilyn E. Hegarty explores the dual discourse on female sexual mobilization that emerged during the war, in which agencies of the state both required and feared women’s support for, and participation in, wartime services. The equation of female desire with deviance simultaneously over-sexualized and desexualized many women, who nonetheless made choices that not only challenged gender ideology but defended their right to remain in public spaces.
